About Our Mission
Whisper Reading is a website dedicated to the history of women in the 18th century, featuring translations of letters, diaries, and personal notes, particularly those of Izabela Czartoryska. Our goal is to present the lives and emotions of aristocratic women of that era.
A Few Words About Us
We, two women – no longer young, yet tirelessly curious about the world – decided to give a voice to one who has been silent for two centuries.
Magda and Asia – together, almost a century of experiences. Two hearts intertwined by thought, love, and difference.
We love literature, cats, theater, and the color of the sky at different times of day. One of us believes in destiny and the quiet presence of the immaterial – the other follows a subtle theory of chaos and trusts in dispersion. One hears the world as music – the other paints it. We meet in tenderness toward children and sensitivity to suffering. We prefer to be where water speaks to stones and the forest breathes without haste. We are feminists and humanists, and Izabela… we feel her so close – as if time were merely a veil of mist.
Magda transcribes and translates her manuscripts, uncovering quiet gestures and shy emotions. Asia creates images – inspired by words, enriched by imagination, woven from dreams, and then brings it all together.
The illustrations on this site were created with the help of AI, but their spirit is human, inspired by the works of Élizabeth Vigée Le Brun, Angelica Kauffmann, Erich Griese, and Isaac de Mucheron. The original texts – sources always worth consulting – can be downloaded directly from the institutions that preserve Izabela’s heritage (cyfrowe.mnk.pl, polona.pl).
Thank you for being here.
Perhaps you will hear the whisper that, for us, was the beginning of everything.
